Born and raised near Sheffield, England, Tim Fretwell was first introduced to electronic music in the late 80s, early 90s, listening to groups like Depeche Mode and New Order. His interest soon turned to Dance music, with the breakthrough of artists like The Prodigy, Altern8 and Moby. It wasn’t until the mid 90s when Tim turned his hand to production, taking influences from the sounds coming out of the USA – deep and sexy house from the likes of Deep Dish and DJs back home, such as Sasha and John Digweed. In the late 90’s when he sent off his first demo containing several tracks to Computer Music Magazine, and got his first track published on the cover CD, along with a rave review. James Wilson – DJ and manager of the new up and coming label Climax Recordings picked up a couple of Tim's tracks - the first release on the Climax imprint was “Where to Next”, and was given to Hellpass to remix. The follow up was “Glide” with a remix from JBO artists Facedown; both releases gained strong support from top DJs of balance promote US.It was when Climax asked Tim to undertake his first remix project that helped raise the profile of his music – the track was “Bad Girl” by Paul Lancaster. It was this deep, sexy break remix that was championed by John Digweed on Kiss FM, and also found its way into the boxes of high profile progressive and breaks DJs such as Sander Kleinenberg, Nick Warren, Jondi & Spesh and James Zabiela. Liking the remix so much John Digweed himself contacted Climax and asked for Tim’s remix services on a future Bedrock release, which turned out to be the massive “Dust” by Pole Folder and CP, with the Fretwell Mix and Fretwell Dub being release along with remixes from The Flash Brothers and James Zabiela in late 2002. Following on from this Tim has gone on to remix for various labels including Jono Fernandez "Colours Of Conscience" on Electrofly and Bedrock's own track "Forge" for Bedrock Breaks. With his own solo material also out on Electrofly, "Ember" - his profile is rising fast. Tim is now back in the studio with various remix commitments, and starting work on new projects for various labels, 2003 looks set to be a busy year.
