In other words the dancefloor that is transformed into a
laboratory. Mixing hedonism and sought out sounds, a passion
for experimentation and hypnotic grooves that have seduced the
club goers in every corner of the Earth.
Originating from the Riviera Romagnola, Sandro and Andrea
interpret house music as though it was a kind of language, a
sound that is capable of cutting through generes, knocking
down confines, ever more transient when it comes to styles.
Thus their music has become pure fusion, a meeting place
between the metronome of house music rhythms, the melting
melodies coming out of soul right up to electronic that is on
the pop borderline with the unconstrained technology of new
wave.
For this very reason their artistic story features a myriad of
prestigious collaborations, meetings with musicians, singers,
producers, all in an effort to create a sound that is capable
of pushing further the possibilities of house music and making
the club become, finally, an exciting sound factory.
If there was such a thing as 'The Future Sound Of Italy'
M.A.S. Collective would be its most refined interpreters.
The flash of light ening for Sandro and Andrea came during the
end of the 80?s when Chicago was immersed in that
extraordinary revolution (musical as well as costume) that
took the name of house music. For the first time the DJ was
not only a ?record selector? but indeed an artist, creative,
capable of manipulating the sounds, to use the record decks as
if they were musical instruments. It is this unforgettable
experience that inspired their first recording project, 'Movin
On', which was followed by 'Another Story', two songs that
have become house classics thanks also to the unattainable
vocal contribution from the New York singer Ce Ce Rogers (one
of the absolute leading players on that scene) who transformed
the digital rhythms into heart felt passion that bordered the
confines of gospel. From then on the connection of MAS
Collective with the States became a characterising element in
their work. In 1996 Strictly Rhythm invited them to their New
York studio and the results are entitled 'Stand Up' and 'Where
Were You', another step up in a career that was growing.
The following episodes, more than 50 singles, saw them come up
against the voices of, amongst others, Susu Bobien, Cinda,
Jimi Polo. However, their sound, ever more heavily influenced
by the house music universe, opened up even further to
contaminations, reared even closer to the harder side of house
as well as uncovering and appreciating acoustic sounds that
make up a perfect counter point to electronic.
Narcotic, Azuli and Airplane! are just some of the prestigious
labels with which these two DJ producers have collaborated
using, time and again, many different guises. At the same time
MAS Collective became one of the most requested outfits for
remixing, adding a touch of immediate sensuality to the songs
of some great artists. It is enough to mention Jocelyn Brown,
the Funky Green Dogs and Celeda. In the meantime there
followed some immense intensity on the dancefloors that best
present the Club Culture essence itself. From the legendary
Cocorico on the Riviera Romagnola to Echoes and Peter Pan in
Riccione right up to Decadence in Salonicco, Vertigo in London,
the Kult in Lausanne to the beaches of Mikonos.
That special touch on the rhythms and voice earned M.A.S. the
admiration of DJ's such as Little Louie Vega who has included
them on his Strictly Rhythm collection, Kerry Chandler who
placed their 'You Don't Know' amongst the 5 contemporary house
music classics, Boy George who chose their remix of 'Freedom
Is' by Stefano Greppi for a compilation on the Ministry label
or even Deep Dish who put their remix of Soul Providers 'Rise'
on their Global Underground compilation.
Regular guests of the high positions in the international Club
Charts, MAS Collective, faithful to their desire of being part
of scenes that are regularly 'in movement', are now working on
a project together with Marc Almond, the legendary singer of
the electro pop duo Soft Cell, a piece of the vibrant history
of modern electronic music. In the company of DJ and
collaborator Stefano Greppi, under the Mad Drivers guise, they
have just finished recording a song that exalts the vein, soft
and melancholic, of the great voice of Marc Almond. Tireless,
they have also created their own label MO-DO Rec.
Today the two DJs/Producers are working on various projects,
among these we can notice Anacrusan "In My Mind", which is
also present in Ali Dubfire's "GU Toronto Afterclub" tracklist.
On forthcoming release there are many remixes, unique in style
and quality, as only Mas Collective are able to do. Andreino &
Sandro Russo are resident DJs at Peter Pan, cult club in
Riccione (Rimini) Italy.
