Nicoletta Magalotti, aka NicoNote, is an eclectic and versatile artist who pursues a personal vocal and expressive research, giving her preference to experience in sound and theatre.
She believes in the vibrations of Sound, in the Interdependence of phenomena. Listening helps her to See.
1978/1983-At a very early age, NicoNote is one of the founders of the Tic/Macchine Celibi theatre research group; in this period she visits the Akademia Ruchu Company in Warsaw to attend a workshop led by the Japanese actor Yoshi Oida. Meets Julian Beck and Judith Malina.
1984/1988-Plays a leading role in a stimulating musical project as the singer of Violet Eves (www.violet.eves), a group defined by many as a highly important experience on the Italian musical panorama of the 1980's. The Materiali Sonori (www.mat.son.it) label currently distributes the most significant pieces in the collection Overview.
At the same time NicoNote makes her first movie experiences, playing minor parts in Stradivari and I cammelli directed respectively by Giacomo Battiato and Giuseppe Bertolucci.
1989/1993-NicoNote continues her career as a solo singer on the Italian rock-pop scene (CGD - Union - 1990; EMI - Nicoletta Magalotti: Nico - 1992), also collaborating with various musicians, including Teresa De Sio, Antonio Aiazzi, Piero Pel, Roberto Colombo and others.
She starts a personal path of research on the relationship of "sound-colour", moving in different disciplines of knowledge. She meets artist Bruno Ceccobelli and violinist Massimo Cohen. Her interest in improvisation influenced by the (humoral) perception of deep feeling as a method of composition is born.
1994/1999-Leading actress of the film Isotta by Maurizio Fiume, presented at the 53rd Venice Film Festival in 1996 and at other international festivals (Los Angeles, New York, Jerusalem, Thessalonica, Havana).
She plays the part/voice of Cassandra in Orestea, una commedia organica? directed by Romeo Castellucci for the SocÏetas Raffaello Sanzio theatre group. She is still an actress/vocalist for the same company in the play Voyage au bout de la nuit, based on the novel by Louis-Ferdinand CÈline.
NicoNote starts working in the discotheque CocoricÚ, directing the ambient room called Morphine, the first of its kind in Italy. Here she organises and presents non-conventional events dedicated to the transversal arts, inviting artists like Roger Eno, Arto Lyndsay, Aphex Twin, Hector Zazou, Marilio Sgalambro and Enrico Ghezzi.
Currently at Morphine NicoNote is holding curious "live sessions of vocal improvisation" with the eclectic resident dj David LovecalÚ, and on the first Saturday of every month she also presents "# session happenings", hosting different musicians on each occasion (www.cocorico.it).2000/2003-Starts the artistic and musical project AND, together with musician and producer Andrea Felli, with whom NicoNote works on the 2nd Site of the performance event Cerimonia: viaggio errante verso Shakespeare in 3 siti e 7 quadri, directed by choreographer Monica Francia and produced by Ravenna Festival in collaboration with the Dance Section of the Venice Biennial. Following this event, NicoNote is invited to participate in the National Women's Drama Festival, where she contributes to the analysis of the relationship Music/Theatre with a communication entitled Shakespeare Ë sol minore (Shakespeare is G minor), presented at Florence's La Limonaia Theatre.
She supervises the musical production of the CD Fashion Victims, the first stage of the AND projects. Three tracks from the album are chosen for the Armani/Global Design, 2001 videos.
During the study day dedicated to Pier Vittorio Tondelli at the Pecci Museum in Prato, NicoNote debuts with a studio version of the Private Space concert, presented later in its definitive form of "theatre of sound" at Milan's Oltre90 Festival in October 2002. The presentation notes were published in their entirety in the Panta magazine Tondelli Tour- 2003, no. 20.
NicoNote also periodically leads a workshop of fairytale and fable reading, intended for adults.
She takes part in a study directed by Elisabetta Pozzi and Luca Scarlini and produced by Teatro Due, Parma, on Ti ho amato per la tua voce by Selim Nassib, dedicated to the legendary Egyptian singer Oum Kalthum. At the "Cantico di Primavera 2003" event, NicoNote recently presented her new project of "sound dramaturgy" (mixing electronic worlds and acoustic worlds), produced in collaboration with the m.a.s. collective dj group, entitled RËgola-studio in forma di concerto ispirato ad Hildegard von Bingen.
